Eloine's ForeseeHome Story
Eloine, a ForeseeHome patient, and her ophthalmologist, Jeffrey Heier, MD, discuss how the ForeseeHome AMD Monitoring Program assists with monitoring the progression of age-related macular degeneration.
"When I walked into my retina specialist’s office, I was holding my husband’s hand, not knowing what to expect. My doctor had previously referred me to the ForeseeHome AMD Monitoring Program to monitor the intermediate dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) I had in both eyes. I was testing with the device daily for almost 4.5 years when I received a call from my doctor’s office asking me to come in for a follow-up examination. When I walked into his office, I teared up as he put his arms around me and said, “ForeseeHome did exactly what it was supposed to do. We caught this, and you are not going to go blind.” I’m a retired college professor and rely heavily on my eyesight to read lips because I am hard of hearing. If I didn’t have ForeseeHome, I would be blind and deaf.
My doctor says that like me, patients are terrified of developing wet AMD, and are desperately looking for ways to detect it earlier so we don’t lose vision. Luckily, my doctor received an alert from the Notal Vision Monitoring Center that there was a change in my testing, and immediately called me to come in. In my case, I was completely asymptomatic, but my doctor was able to confirm I had developed wet AMD before I even started to notice any changes in my vision. Because I was able to begin treatment right away, I continue to have good vision to this day!" - Eloine, a ForeseeHome Patient
